Nvidia circular financing fears trigger mega-cap portfolio rotation

Five companies, one earnings window, and no consensus on what capital intensity is worth anymore.

Apple gained $700 billion in market cap partly by staying out of the AI infrastructure race. Nvidia guaranteed hundreds of billions to keep that race funded — and fell anyway. Somewhere between those two reactions sits the question every allocator is now quietly asking.

NVDA — $750B in deals, shares fell anyway.

GOOGL — Cloud growth accelerated, capex guidance triggered a selloff.

MSFT — Rose on steady spending, no fireworks required.

AAPL — Gained $700B in market cap by avoiding AI capex.

MU — Down 22%, and it's not about demand.

Read together, the pattern suggests markets are less focused on whether AI infrastructure gets built, and more on who absorbs the balance sheet risk if the returns arrive late.

If capital intensity is now a liability instead of a moat, which balance sheet do you want standing behind it?
